How to reach Yamunotri...?

Yamunotri Location : Situated in the western region of Garwal Himalayas at an altitude of 3,291 meters (10,797 ft) in Uttarkashi District of Uttarakhand, Yamunotri offers picturesque surrounding with lush meadows and gushing cascades with beautiful views of numbers of waterfalls.

Located approximately 30 kilometers north of Uttarkashi town, the Headquater of Uttarkashi district, the Yamunotri temple is a full day journey from Uttarakhand major towns of Garwal region – Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun.

The Yamunotri temple – holy abode of Goddess Yamuna is situated near the foot of Kalind Parbat and on a side of Bander poonch Parbat. Yamunotri Temple is Accessible by a 6 km trek from Jankichatti. The motrable road continues till Jankichatti via Syanachatti, Ranachatti and Hanumanchatti. Pilgrims generally take night halt at Barkot, which is 50 km before Jankichatti.

From Jankichatti Ponies, Dandies and Kandies are available for Pilgrims to complete their further journey to Yamunotri temple. The trek to Yamunotri offers magnificent, mind stilling views of snow-clad mountain peaks and intense forests.

  • Nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun.
  • Jolly grant to Yamunotri (distance) – 210 km
  • No direct Public transportation service available , Private taxis can be availed from pre-paid booth at airport.
  • Helicopter service also available from Dehradun shastradhara helipad to Yamunotri Dham.

  • By Train

  • Nearest Station : Rishikesh, Dehradun.
  • Dehradun Station to Yamunotri(Distance) : 175 km
  • Rishikesh Station to Yamunotri (Distance) : 200 km
  • Regular Bus service, Shared Jeep and Taxi services to Yamunotri are available from Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun.
  • Haridwar and Kotdwar are other two stations for which pilgrims can take trains. Buses and Taxis run between these two stations and Hanumanchatti.

  • By Road

    The best route to visit Yamunotri is via Dehardun and Barkot. Just in case you are coming from Haridwar-Rishikesh then the road to Yamunotri diverts from Dharasu bifurcation point. Yamunotri is Well connected to Haridwar , Dehradun , Chamba, Tehri, Barkot, Hanuman Chatti and Janki Chatti.
